System Benefits of SmartCard
Stand-alone system
Your customers can purchase a SmartCard or MoneyCard directly from your facility through a Value Transfer Machine (VTM™). Depending on your machine, customers load their cards with monetary value with cash, credit cards, or debit cards. Once payment is provided, the VTM™ will load value onto the embedded chip on the SmartCard (and depending on the machine may also dispense a new SmartCard) and the card is ready for use in any washer or dryer that has a CardSlide reader. The CardSlide reads the card value and if sufficient funds are available, the reader signals the machine to start.
Easy to set up & manage
SmartCard systems are extremely easy to set up, simple to manage, and are fully accountable. ESD® Management Cards are used to initially set up all CardSlide units and VTM™’s. These cards are created through ESD’s® proprietary Laundry Logic Management Software which is a powerful tool used to establish cycle times, pricing specials, and card and vend pricing. Management Cards can also be used to establish Spanish prompts and track a customer’s card usage in addition to additional various functions, audits, and reports.
Eliminates the need for coins
ESD’s® SmartCard system eliminates the use of quarters and the associated hassles operators face when accepting coins. In addition, your customers appreciate not having to carry quarters and/or use bill changers. This results in a seamless process in a secure environment for you and your customers.
Flexible revalue options
Flexibility is incredibly important which is why we’ve created multiple ways to revalue MoneyCards and SmartCards, allowing you to tailor your laundry room operation. Depending on the type of VTM™ you select, residents can add value using cash, credit cards, debit cards, smart phone pay, NFC devices, and more.

SmartCard Products
SmartCards and Money/Loyalty Cards
ESD® loyalty cards make it easy for residents to pay for their laundry without the burden of having to carry cash to the laundry room. To add value to their cards, your customers use the laundry’s Value Transfer Machines (VTM™) and use the cards to pay at the washer and dryer of their choice. As an added bonus, the artwork on the cards can be fully customized to display your brand.
SmartCard CardSlide Readers
Mounted directly on the washer or dryer, SmartCard CardSlide Readers are easy to use and prove that the SmartCard system is a true stand-alone product. The CardSlide Reader reads the remaining value on the inserted SmartCard or Money/LoyaltyCard and sends a signal to the machine to start if it has the available funds. It then deducts the vend price from the card’s remaining balance and maintains a record of the transaction. As an operator, you can easily extract that record with an audit management card.
Value Transfer Machines (VTM™)
Several different VTM™’s which work with the SmartCard system, allow your customers to add value to their SmartCards and Money/Loyalty Cards. At ESD® we offer a variety of VTM™’s, from a basic cash-to-card machine to a customer-friendly interactive touch screen. Depending on the type of machine, they are capable of accepting both cash and cards. SmartCard is also compatible with MyLaundryLink.
Management Cards
CardSlide Readers are easy to set up with the use of Management Cards. All CardSlide Reader networks come pre-configured and the Management Cards allow you to control and test this connection. The cards also allow you to test machines once you install without having to use personal debit cards of credit cards.
Laundry Logic Management System
ESD’s® Laundry Logic Management Software provides operators with added control and access to information. The system also comes with an optional feature, allowing you to adjust vend prices and cycle times, as well as giving you the added bonus of total accountability through the audit of machines. The Laundry Logic software is available in a basic edition for a single site owner and a professional edition for a multi-site owner.
The SmartCard system is completely stand alone and makes owning and operating multi-housing systems seamless. In addition to those listed above, we also offer additional products such as a door access controller, a utility controller, and more to add versatility to your SmartCard system.
